Communication Product Distribution

There is a wide variety of communication products that are currently available. From cellular phones to wireless internet, people are finding it easier to reach and talk to people than ever before. In earlier days, communication simply consisted of smoke signals or flags. Today however, communication involves using a wide variety of electronic transmitters such as the telephone, cellular phone, television, radio and computer. Telecommunication is a vital aspect of the world economy today and currently the revenue from this industry is place at just below three percent of the gross world product.

Communication products are available in many styles, shapes and forms. If you are a distributor of communication products then you must know and understand the type of product that you are promoting, as well as your target audience. There are several ways that you can distribute your communication products to the world. In fact, you may end up with more than one method that works effectively. Direct distribution methods, such as direct mail, retail, catalogs and online ordering methods, include providing your communication products and services directly to your customers. For instance if you have a website that offers these products, your customers can order the product that they want directly from your website. You will then distribute or ship the item to the customer. This is direct distribution and is the most widely chosen method for communication product distribution.

Indirect communication product distribution includes a middleman. Examples of indirect methods would include using wholesalers, distributors or retailers. Imagine a large retail store chain such as Wal-Mart. Many communication products are sold in these large store chains. Customers go into the stores, not always planning to purchase communication products, and have access to a wide variety of products from food to household furnishings. When the retail chain stores sell products, they are typically provided to them by the product manufacturer or distributor. The store itself receives money for selling the product, but they pay less to the manufacturer for that same product. This allows the chain store to receive a profit off the communication or other product that it sells.
Even though customers are required typically to pay a shipping cost for ordering products from a distributor’s internet site or catalog, many prefer the convenience of shopping from home. Also with the current oil and gas prices that have skyrocketed over the last year or so, many customers feel that direct distribution ordering is much less expensive considering the distance that they must travel to reach a chain or wholesale store. This is why millions of customers order their communication products online or through direct mail advertisements each year. The savings, even with shipping costs included, are still substantial.

Whether you choose direct or indirect distribution, it is important that you inform your customers of any charges or fees associated with shipping or delivering your product. Customers today are very cost-minded. They like to know upfront about any fees that they will incur when purchasing new communication equipment, whether that be a cellular or mobile phone, a high definition television or a new computer.
It is also important that you know what distribution method you will offer your customers for your product. If you are developing a new product, then be sure to make your distribution decision as part of your overall marketing plan. Knowing beforehand how your product will reach your customers is important. This will give you the edge that you need to effectively reach your customers through your advertising methods. If you are distributing communication products for another manufacturer, be sure that you understand all distribution methods that are available to your potential customers, such as internet ordering or retail store purchasing.
